RABINDRA BHARATI UNIVERSITY

Raiganj Surendranath Mahavidyalaya received permission for opening Study Centre of Rabindra Bharati University under Directorate of Distance Education, RBU on 22-04-2004. From Academic Session 2005-06 College started the study centre (code RBU-01) in its campus. Initially eight PG courses (e.g., M.A. in Bengali, M.A. in English, M.A. in Political Science, M.A. in History, M.A. in Sanskrit, M.A. in Rabindra Sangeet , M.A. in Vocal Music and M.A. in Environmental Studies)were introduced through distance education mode. In the year 2007, the College received permission for supporting two more PG Programmes (i.e., M.A. in Education and M.A. in Social Work). In the year 2014 three programmes were officially shifted from this study centre to main campus of Rabindra Bharati University due to lack of infrastructure. Due to imposition of UGC norms in distance education of Rabindra Bharati University in the year 2018, a large number of programmes were also closed and only three PG progrmmes (i.e., M.A. in Bengali, M.A. in English, M.A. in Sanskrit) remained prevailed in this study centre. Again in 2022 four PG Programmes (i.e., M.A. in Education, M.A. in History, M.A. in Political Science and M.A. in Environmental Studies) were reintroduced in this study centre. Number of enrolments which were huge till 2018 steadily declined due to several reasons including the above. Enrolment in first semester of the Academic Session 2023-24 is 174.

Principal of the College is the ex-officio Coordinator of this Study Centre. Two office assistants especially assigned to handle all the official work of this Study Group are Mr. Mukul Das (Mobile: 97350 26051) and Mr. Arunangshu Sarkar (Mobile: 94743 88100). Students of this Study Centre (RBU-01) can communicate with them at any time for their inconveniences. Personal Contact Programmes are being arranged as per rule with the cooperation from teachers of the College as well as from other institutions. All non-teaching employees of the College do work as support staff for smoothly continuing the programme.
